How to Safely Install and Use Hydraulic Shoring Jacks

Mar 16, 2026 | TrenchJacks

Hydraulic shoring moves fast, but safety starts before the first jack is set.

KUNDEL’s hydraulic shoring jacks are built for quick setup, adjustable support, and trench safety in changing field conditions.

Plan the Job First

Before setup, assess the trench conditions:

  • soil type
  • trench depth
  • nearby utilities
  • water or vibration risks

The goal is simple: choose a shoring layout that matches the trench before anyone goes below grade.

Use the Right System

KUNDEL offers several hydraulic shoring options, including TrenchJack™, HydroShore™, and HydroJack™. KUNDEL positions these systems around lightweight handling, versatility, and fast trench support.

How to Install Hydraulic Trench Jacks

1. Place the jacks from above
Set the hydraulic shores from the surface based on the trench protection plan. The point is to support the trench walls before worker entry.

2. Connect the pump and hoses
Attach the hydraulic pump and hoses securely. KUNDEL notes that certified hydraulic kits include both.

3. Pressurize the trench walls evenly
Extend the jacks until the trench walls are supported evenly. Use the pressure gauge to avoid uneven loading across the trench.

Check the System Before Entry

Before each shift, inspect:

  • hoses
  • cylinders
  • fittings
  • eaks
  • pressure consistency

No one should enter until the shores are secure and holding properly.

Keep pressure balanced

Good hydraulic shoring setup is not just about force. It is about even force. Balanced pressure helps the system perform the way it should.

Remove Shores the Right Way

When the work is done, release pressure carefully and remove the shores in sequence.

Remove from the bottom up

That helps maintain support as the trench is cleared and the system is taken out.

Safe Setup Starts with the Right Equipment

Fast installation means nothing without control. The right planning, even pressurization, and routine checks are what make trench shoring step by step both practical and safe.
